I have been blessed to be around fly fishing and casting from an early age. I have been mentored by many fly tying and fly casting mentors during my exposure to the sport of fly casting. The learning curve was often steep and long, but I feel it is my responsibility to pay it forward and share what I have learned over the last 48 years in regards to casting mechanics, techniques and fishing opportunities
While growing up in Southern California my roots we always tied to the outdoors. Dad would have me tag along on hunting and fishing adventures or as we would call them mis-adventures. These would always involve some sort of back road to a historical marker, which soon lead to many days and nights stranded in the back country. Writing to my Grand Dad I discovered his expertise fishing for bass with the bamboo fly rod, so he really got me started during my visits. In 1973, I soon found solace in fly fishing, growing up fishing in the Seirra Nevada mountains of California, on such waters as Hot Creek, Owens and East Walker River.s I could not get enough, I fly fished for every species in Saltwater and Freshwater with t fly rod in hand. Making may trips to Mexico, Colorado, Arizona , Montana and the West. Soon I found the joy and often frustration in salmon and steelhead on the fly in the PNW, the fish were incredible. I moved to Arizona to be closer to Lee's Ferry, San Juan River and many mountain streams of the Four Corners region. In 2006, I became a certified instructor and started my part time career in the outdoors. In 2010, our family decided to move to Issaquah, Washington as family took precedence over career opportunities, plus I would be closer to the ever elusive salmon and steelhead. I have been teaching and coaching in the area since.
